Overview
Best Start Therapy is a child psychotherapy service built on a powerful belief: everyone deserves the best start in life.
Founded by child psychotherapist Phill, the practice supports children and young people through one-to-one therapy and also provides training and consultation for professionals in the field.
Phill approached me after seeing my work within the mental health sector and my focus on brands that help people feel better, happier, and healthier. He wanted a brand that reflected his calm, grounded approach - something that felt professional and trustworthy, but also warm and human.
The Challenge
For Best Start Therapy, the main challenge was to create a brand identity that felt warm, professional, and grounded in trust, while still being approachable and child-friendly.
Because the service works with children and families but communicates primarily with parents, schools, and professionals, the branding had to balance two audiences - it couldn’t lean too “clinical” or too “playful.”
The new designs needed to:
Communicate safety, warmth, and professionalism.
Appeal to adults (referrers and caregivers) while staying true to the needs of the child
Strike a balance between holistic, nature-inspired values and a credible, established tone
Stand out in a space often filled with clinical or overly generic branding
Make room for growth in the educational field, allowing Phill to branch out now and in the future
Strategy and Creative Direction
I began with a full brand strategy process, exploring:
Core values and mission
Audience personas and their needs
Brand positioning within the therapy landscape
Tone of voice and key messaging
From there, I developed two creative directions - one calm and nature-inspired, one more playful and expressive - both rooted in the concept of growth
We refined the chosen direction around Phill’s existing tree symbol, evolving it into a more balanced, modern mark. A muted, nature-inspired colour palette and clean, open typography gave the brand a sense of grounded calm while maintaining a friendly, approachable feel.
